An area rug is an anchor in any room design. When it's too small it can make your room appear small. It can also compartmentalize a room in unwanted ways. If the area rug is too large, it can be overwhelming to a space and make other furniture appear too small.
Use this guide to determine what size area rug will fit your room best. As a general rule, the carpet should should extend about 12-18 inches on each side of the furniture and have at least the front legs of each piece of furniture sit on top.
